Field Trips
The entire group goes for two or three all-day field trips to nearby scientific institutions.
From New Mexico Tech typical destinations include the Very Large Array (of radio telescopes) and Sunspot / Apache Point Observatory.
From Westmont the group visits NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab (SSP alumni lead the tour), Caltech campus, and Griffith Observatory (the Director, Dr. Ed Krupp, is SSP '61).
In a given year, there might be an extra, off-topic field trip focusing on, for example, geology or archeology.
Non-academic off-campus trips -- swimming or shopping, for example -- also happen regularly.
