Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in Cambridge near Boston, is one of the premier research universities in the world. Although Cambridge is a long way from SSP's original home in Southern California, SSPers have been enrolling there for decades ... and teaching there too. Before Prof. Ed Bertschinger headed MIT's Department of Physics, he was SSP '75 and a Teaching Assistant from '79 to '82.

Although Caltech has enrolled more SSPers altogether (including Prof. Bertschinger, by the way), in recent years MIT has been catching up, enrolling an average of 10 out of 72 SSPers for each of the past five years.

In 2009, SSP and MIT signed an agreement to cooperate in admissions, and MIT now lists SSP as an affiliated summer program.
