SSP / Ojai Reunion Day
On Saturday, July 18, 2009, join us on the campus of Besant Hill School (formerly Happy Valley School) in Ojai,
for a day and evening of stimulating interaction with SSP alumni, faculty, and students. The schedule:
- 11:30 - 12:30 Welcome: sign-in at Besant Hill School
- 12:00 - 1:00 Lunch with students
- 1:00 - 5:30 Self-guided tours of Thacher School
- 1:00 - 3:00 Informal discussion in the lecture room (bottom floor of the Phoenix dorm) with SSP faculty and Trustees
- 3:00 - 4:45 Alumni vs. students softball game / social time
- 4:45 - 5:30 Free time
- 5:30 - 6:00 Outdoor reception for alumni, faculty, guests, and students
- 6:00 - 7:00 Buffet dinner
- 7:20 - 9:00 Guest lecture in Zalk Theatre
- 9:00 - 10:00 Observing (and observing with) SSP's two new telescopes: Meade 14" LX200R reflector, and Takahashi TOA-150 refractor

If you plan to attend, email sspalum [@] ssp.org no later than July 12. An accurate advance head count is necessary to plan the meals. Include the names of the adults and children in your party.
Cost
Reunion Day is free to alumni and friends of SSP, and their families (children are welcome). Donations to defray the cost will be gratefully accepted -- either by regular donation, or by cash or check at the registration table.
Lodging
There is no provision for alumni staying overnight on campus. We recommend the Hummingbird Inn (800-228-3744) and the Casa Ojai Best Western (800-255-8175); mention that you are with "the Summer Science Program at Besant Hill School" for a discounted rate.
Camping is available at nearby Dennison Park overlooking the Ojai Valley: call 805-654-3951 for reservations. Each campsite costs $20 and is limited to six people and three (vehicles + tents).
Getting There
Besant Hill School is at 8585 Ojai Santa Paula Rd (also known as California Route 150), just outside of the town of Ojai [map & directions].
To reach campus from Ojai, follow Ojai Avenue (Route 150) east. Once you are in the orchards, pass Carne Road on the left and shortly thereafter veer right, at Boccali's Restaurant, to remain on Route 150 (at this point called Ojai Santa Paula Road). After climbing the steep and winding Dennison Grade, you will pass Dennison Park on the right. Continue about a mile further. Look for a blue vertical "SSP" banner on the left. Turn left on an unpaved road into the Happy Valley School campus. Follow the signs to the unpaved parking area.
